International Mother Language Day<\/b><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Bangladesh has a unique history of mother language\u00a0<\/span>movement\u00a0<\/span>which is recognized worldwide.\u00a0<\/span>On November 17, 1999, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) General Conference declared February 21 to be observed worldwide as International Mother Language Day to promote peace, linguistic and cultural diversity, multilingualism and the protection of all mother languages. International Mother Language Day has been observed worldwide annually since 2000. The date commemorates the day in 1952 when students demonstrating for recognition of their language\u00a0<\/span>Bangla<\/span>, as one of the two national languages, were shot and killed by government forces<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Bangladesh Community Association of Nova Scotia\u00a0<\/span>took initiative to observe International Mother Language Day\u00a0<\/span>first time\u00a0<\/span>in Nova Scotia in 2018. The association, in partnership with different governed and community organizations, have observed this Day in Nova Scotia.\u00a0<\/span>Th<\/span>is free public event\u00a0<\/span>is<\/span>\u00a0well attended and is\u00a0<\/span>feature<\/span>d with<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>key note speeches<\/span>, cultural performances, and ceremony promot<\/span>ing\u00a0<\/span>multilingualism and diversity<\/span>\u00a0in Nova Scotia.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
