Before And After Coming To Halifax

Please try to take direct flight from London to Halifax if possible, even if you need to pay some extra dollar. If Halifax is not your first city to land in Canada then make sure you have at least 5 hours to the next connecting flight to Halifax as it will take time for collecting luggage, immigration process etc.

Make sure to bring Permanent residence confirmation, visa, clothing for the winter including traditional Bangladeshi clothes , all of your certificates, professionals works, reference letters from previous jobs, medical prescriptions, records, dental files, optical prescriptions, children’s immunization record, do cheap shipment planning, international credit cards, travelers cheque, Canadian dollars, international driving license, school records of the children, marriage certificate etc.

If there is any luggage missing don’t worry just inform the airport officers at the Montreal airport as it is your first city in Canada to collect your luggage. If there is long queue and your time is approaching please inform security officers about it to take you front of the line as family having kids will have priority.

It is a bit difficult to rent an apartment from outside of Canada. Even if you manage to rent an apartment from outside of Canada, you need to sign a 12 months lease and some reason you do not like it, you can’t terminate the lease before its expiry date. So, I will strongly recommend you to view the property before sign a lease. Find a temporary place (Air bnb) for initial 1/2 weeks then move to a rental apartment.

After arriving here book an appointment with the bank to open bank account.. When you have apartment go for health card. Please bring unlocked mobile phone set so that you can buy and use any sim.

Taxi (Bobs Taxi [ Phone: (902) 463-2222], Casino taxi [ Phone: (902) 429-6666] etc) & bus services (320) are available in Halifax airport. There is an office at right hand side from where you can call for taxi for free.  Where will you be initially staying? If hotel, most of the hotel provide shuttle services from/to airport. If you stay private place like air bnb, bus service may not be suitable for you as you may have several luggage with you.

There are a few factors you must consider before renting; is it near school (if you have a school going kids)? Is it a good residential neighborhood? Is it a convenient location for shopping? etc…

Our community is growing in Halifax & Bedford area. There are many schools, mosques & groceries available in these areas. In Dartmouth surrounding the Dartmouth Mosque the Asian communities (Bangladesh, India , Pakistan) are growing at Leaman, Crystal, Farthington, Franklyn court, Primrose areas.
